Meet Ann Thai: Lawyer Turned Entrepreneur With An Unexpected Career Change Journey
May 6, 2024
Hello, friend!
I’m a Career and Purpose Mentor; past serial job hopper who was in desperate search of her ‘thing’; fur Mama to my adorable toy Cavoodle, Rosie; interior design obsessed; yoga lovin'; equal parts homebody and free spirit.
When I discovered that Ann had left behind a lucrative law career to start her business, I was immediately intrigued. It takes considerable courage to make such a massive change, especially after investing so much time and energy into becoming a lawyer, so, I wanted to bring Ann on the podcast to learn more about her journey and how she arrived at this pivotal decision in her career.
It turns out, leaving law was one of the best decisions that Ann has ever made.
Even though there were speed bumps she had to overcome on her entrepreneurial journey, including having a breakdown that forced her to make some tough decisions, Ann has come out the other side stronger than ever, with a beautiful business that brings her joy, meaning and purpose.
In this episode we talk about:
The family pressures that led to Ann pursuing her career in law after school and going down a path that was wildly out of alignment with her skills, passions or personality.
Why, despite the signs she was out of alignment, Ann kept pushing forward with this path and that ultimately led to extreme burnout.
Why Ann decided to leave behind her law career and make the leap into entrepreneurship, despite having only a year left in her degree.
The unexpected way Ann discovered her knack for flipping businesses.
The experiments Ann ran before launching her own business to see if her ideas were viable, serving as stepping stones to where she is in her career today.
How Ann was able to make use of her maternity leave to lay the foundation for her future business.
How the skills Ann gained through her side hustles and ‘experiments’ fast tracked her success with Amia Lashes and generating $1m in revenue in the first year.
The problem Ann encountered and how it gave her the idea to start Amaia Lashes.
Why Ann decided to launch her business, just 3 days after giving birth to her first son.
The surprising way COVID impacted her business and the massive gamble that paid off.
The massive realization Ann had after experiencing the quick success with her business, forcing her to see how out of alignment she had been with her values.
Why, despite the money she was making, Ann was miserable in her business.
The wake up call Ann had that prompted her to go on her healing journey.
The childhood wounds and limiting beliefs that Ann had to confront so she could move forward and reconnect with her joy and find her purpose.
